Firefly Solar earns Cheryl and Dale’s trust, one friendly voice at a time
“Firefly did not just install the panels, they installed trust.”
Cheryl, a retired teacher, and her semi-retired husband Dale went solar to get ahead of rising power costs on a fixed income. An honest first conversation earned their trust, and a real person on the phone at every step kept it.
Why did Cheryl and Dale go solar in retirement?
Mornings at Cheryl and Dale’s place run like clockwork. Dale sets up the coffee the night before, it’s perked by the time they’re up, and they settle into their chairs on opposite sides of the room. Cheryl is going into her sixth year of retirement from teaching and still picks up the odd day of supply work. Dale is semi-retired.
With a fixed income ahead and power costs climbing, solar was worth a serious look. Cheryl thinks about it the way she would any major home project: a financial commitment, and an investment in the home they love. “To me, it’s no different than if I were to build an extension on my home.”
What made them trust Firefly Solar?
Cheryl doesn’t usually make big decisions quickly. This one felt different from the first meeting with Andrew, their Firefly solar representative. “I didn’t feel he was pushing anything,” she says. “I felt he was extremely honest.” There was a different vibe, and Cheryl trusts her read on people.
That trust held through the whole project because there was always a person on the other end of the line. When Cheryl called Firefly, she reached a human voice who already knew their file, so she never had to repeat herself. “Just knowing that we always had somebody that knew the situation” made the process feel welcoming from start to finish.

What was installation day like?
Cheryl and Dale can’t say enough about the installation crew and their electrician. They felt confident in the work and were impressed by how efficiently the team moved. They have a wood-fired pizza oven out back, so lunch was on them: they made the whole crew pizzas.

“We were just so grateful that they were here. They were just so efficient and good at what they did.”
Would they recommend Firefly Solar?
Without hesitation. Cheryl’s advice to anyone considering solar is to be patient and understanding while the project moves through its steps, and she would “certainly recommend Firefly.” She credits Andrew, the installers, the electrician, and a team that always dealt with things in a timely way. “I don’t think you could ask for more.”

Video transcriptWhat Cheryl & Dale said on camera, lightly edited for readability.
My husband makes the coffee the night before, so the coffee’s perked when we get up. We are very regimented in terms of getting up at the same time. First thing we do is we get our coffee, and then he sits on one side in his chair and I sit on the other. I am retired, going into my sixth year, but I do the odd little day of supply teaching. And my husband I would consider semi-retired.
We considered the fixed income, the rising costs of power. Thought solar would definitely be something to entertain. It should be a consideration for a lot of people. I know it’s a financial commitment, but it’s an investment in your home. To me, it’s no different than if I were to build an extension on my home. I’ve just added to the value of my home.
I remember, because I don’t often make decisions that quickly, but I did feel a sense of trust, a real sense of trust, when Andrew came in. I didn’t feel he was pushing anything. I felt he was extremely honest. And there was just a different vibe. I’m very good with vibes, and I don’t often feel like I did.
And then just all of my interactions with Firefly. The fact that I could call and speak to a human voice, which was very helpful because I didn’t have to repeat. That really was very, very welcoming on our part. Just knowing that we always had somebody that knew the situation.
We couldn’t speak highly enough about the installers or [our electrician]. We felt very confident. We have an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. We made them all pizzas, and we were just so grateful that they were here. They were just so efficient and good at what they did. We were really pleased.
Be patient, be understanding, but I would certainly recommend Firefly. And I think it’s to do with Andrew for sure, the installers, the electrician, the fact that I get to speak to a human voice who always dealt with things very timely. I don’t think you could ask for more. I think that says it all, really.
Firefly did not just install the panels, they installed trust.
